'Versi baru Amnesia: The Dark Descent' mungkin akan hadir akhir tahun ini

I feel a little bad about spoiling this, but the word is already out and besides, it's kind of my job: It looks like Frictional Games is working on a new version of its horror masterpiece Amnesia: The Dark Descent, and it might be out later this year.

Word of the update slipped out through Frictional's latest annual report, which was released in June but went unnoticed until redditor CarlZzZoneNnn (via Insider Gaming) got bored and started browsing through it. I dug into it myself, aided by Google Translate, and after some poking around I found what I was looking for here. After saying Frictional's focus has been on Ontos, the studio's next big horror game, it adds, "We also plan to release a new version of Amnesia: The Dark Descent in late 2026." That's the extent of it and it's not much to go on—Frictional may just be hammering away on a Switch 2 port, or maybe a Roblox edition or... whatever.

But maybe—maybe—we're all going to get to partake in some sort of updated Dark Descent good times: A remake, a remaster, or something that compels us to dive back into that magnificently horrific nightmare. Obviously that's what I'm hoping for.

Assuming that's the case (and I feel like its inclusion in an annual financial report suggests something more significant than just another platform port) it'll be interesting to see how Dark Descent holds up. Frictional's approach to horror has matured dramatically since then, and so has its audience, and that classic Amnesia gameplay isn't as novel now as it was then.

But there's just no overstating how impactful that game was: After building up to it through the Penumbra trilogy, Frictional absolutely knocked it out of the park with The Dark Descent, creating one of the most viscerally terrifying videogames of all time.

We said in our 88% review that Amnesia: The Dark Descent "understands that the imagined far outweighs the known in its psychological punch, and it gives you enough audio and visual cues to imagine a veritable carnival of horrors." But every now and then it delivered that carnival of horrors right in your face with both barrels, and you'd end up screaming and dancing and maybe breaking your headphones. It was not cool, but also extremely cool.

Obviously I'm very excited about the possibility of a new Dark Descent, even though I don't like horror games and playing it is about the last thing I want to do—but also something I would absolutely do because it's just that damn good. The report also says Frictional's next "major" game is also in pre-production, so that's very cool too. I've reached out to Frictional to ask what they've got cooking, and will update if I receive a reply.
