PC cooling company Arctic has secured a tariff refund from the US government. The company isn't simply content to sit on the cash, though. As a result of the refund, Arctic is rolling back prices on its cooling components for US customers. On top of that, the company has also pledged to put the money to use in a variety of community initiatives.

The company shared via its blog, "In addition to the price rollback, Arctic is investing in community initiatives that support technology education and grassroots PC communities in the United States through hardware donations and technical support—we remain committed to fair pricing and making things right for the builders who support Arctic."

The company has yet to release further information on the specific community initiatives it plans to aid. However, the price rollback is already in effect on its US Amazon and eBay store fronts.

The company said, "Rather than only adjusting the specific items that saw a price increase, every recovered dollar is returned to the market through across-the-board retail price cuts, fulfilling our promise to the PC building community. It will remain active until every single dollar ARCTIC received from the tariff refund has been paid back to our customers."

Considering both the Arctic Liquid Freezer III Pro, and the Arctic Freezer 36 currently feature in our best CPU coolers guide, I'd call that good news indeed.

To recap, back in February the Supreme Court ruled that President Trump's use of the International Emergency Economic Powers Act of 1977 to justify far-reaching tariffs was unconstitutional. As a result, Nintendo, Lenovo, plus a number of other affected companies have since applied for compensation. Nintendo and Lenovo at least are also looking for interest in addition to the tariff refund.

It will be interesting to see which other hardware and tech companies announce similar price rollbacks like Arctic. That said, it's not just tariffs driving up the price of hardware. To take Nintendo as one example, Switch 2 pre-orders were delayed last year 'to assess the potential impact of tariffs'.

The console went on to debut at $450 in the US despite tariff turmoil, though that will increase to $500 from September 1 this year due to "changes in market conditions" (ie, the still raging memory supply crisis). As such, I strongly doubt Nintendo at least will be following Arctic's example and rolling back its hardware prices any time soon.
