It can be pretty daunting stepping foot into a challenging RPG. Beast of Reincarnation is deliberately intended to make you approach it like a Soulslike, so there's no shame in admitting you need some help from time to time. Thanks to Emma and Koo's well-populated skill trees and synergies, there are plenty of approaches you can take, and what may seem like a tall order can be made a little simpler by taking your time, reading the in-game tutorials, and optimizing your build.

With that in mind, we've put together some essential tips for the early game in Beast of Reincarnation, so that you can progress through the story with a little less friction. But not none at all, because that wouldn't be any fun.

Unlock skill combinations first

Compared to your standard attacks, unlockable skill combinations are far more deadly. Focus on using your skill points to obtain them in the first instance. You'll also unlock some of these as you progress through the story and take down some of the bosses. The first boss, the Rangifier, gives you the Sakura Storm skill. This will unleash a row of Sakura after four consecutive slashes, and you can use them to leap out of the way.

Consider where to spend your skill points

After you've unlocked some of the combination attacks, focus on what complements your build. The Helm Splitter aerial attack can be acquired early on, and allows Emma to use her hair to get height, and then slam down to the ground for a devastating AoE attack. This helps with both evasion--since you're in the air, some boss attacks can't reach her--and dealing damage that contributes to the stun meter.

Read the menus carefully

There are a ton of helpful tutorials in the menus, as well as helpful indicators that tell you whether it's worth returning to the cleanse walker. Often, there will be character story beats to catch, or you'll be able to upgrade equipment.

Koo has a great nose on him

Pay attention to what Emma is saying to Koo, or to the notifications that pop up. Koo can sniff out enemies, valuable items, chests, and more. As you level him up, he'll be able to collect these too.

Healing in midair is a viable tactic

Using Emma's hair to gain height or distance from an enemy so that she can heal and recover enough to return to the fight is something you should focus on doing. Those few moments of respite could be the difference between survival or having to start the fight over again.

Use the slow motion mechanics

When you're commanding Koo to attack, or shooting a bow in midair, or using Emma's abilities, time will slow down. In the case of shooting in midair, this means you can get multiple shots in as opposed to just the one, so it's always worth trying to get some height before shooting. Oh, and if you hold down your crossbow attack, it turns into a rapid-firing machine.

Don't use Koo while your opponent is stunned

For some reason, Koo's attacks just aren't as effective while your enemies are stunned. Wait until they recover before using Koo's attack points for his next assault. A lot of these come with status effects too, which will contribute to the enemy become stunned faster for a next round of huge damage from Emma.

Koo's multi-hit moves are great

Using Koo's multi-hit moves that have +1 Bloom on hit means they're essentially free attacks. As soon as each attack in the sequence lands, Koo will gain one Bloom, meaning you can choose to attack again almost immediately after. Just remember that you'll need to use a different attack than the previous one initially.

You can steer your hair

Extending Emma's hair doesn't always need to be in a straight line. Try turning it around a corner while ascending a wall to get a free platform in midair. You'll find this invaluable when seeking out easy routes to gain height, or looking for hidden items.

Look for not-so-subtle hints

Sometimes, when a path forward might be a little confusing, there will be helpful directions etched on a nearby wall, sign, or floor. Keep an eye out for these if you're struggling to find your way.

Yes, you can pet the dog

Well, wolf. Your adorable companion, Koo, loves to be pet so much that doing so will increase your rapport with him, leading to greater possibilities down the line. Do it all the time. Make it weird.
