Metro by T-Mobile, a T-Mobile owned prepaid wireless service provider, is offering a great deal that will get you an Apple iPhone 16e smartphone "on us" if you sign up for 3 months of service. Even after you tally up the cost of the service plan, you'll come out very much on top compared to buying the phone outright. Check out the deets below.
Metro by T-Mobile Is Offering an iPhone 16e "On Us"
Metro by T-Mobile currently has a promotion where you can get an iPhone 16e for $99.99 when you port-in an existing phone number and sign up for the $55/mo ($50/mo with AutoPay) plan. After three months of service, T-Mobile will gift you a $100 virtual prepaid Mastercard that essentially pays off your phone. Since this is a prepaid service, you can cancel your plan immediately afterwards and then sign up for something cheaper, like the $25 plan. Note that T-Mobile will not unlock your phone until after 12 months of active service (this is now standard for nearly all service providers).
The $55/mo ($50/mo with AutoPay) plan gives you unlimited talk, text, and 5G data. Taxes are already included and there are no activation fees. You're guaranteed this price for 5 years, although being a prepaid plan, you're free to opt out at any time. In addition, you get perks like Scam Shield, which enables Caller ID and blocks or redirects spam calls, and T-Mobile Tuesdays, a program that gives you access to freebies and exclusive discounts every Tuesday. Note that speeds may slow if you go over a soft cap of greater than 50GB per month.
You're essentially paying $150 for the iPhone 16e and 3 months of T-Mobile service
Let's do the math here. The iPhone 16e was released in February of 2025 with a $599 MSRP. It retails for the same price today, although the actual value is probably lower (about $499) because it's no longer the current model. With this T-Mobile promotion, you're getting it for free, but you're paying $150 for the service plan ($50 per month for 3 months).
TL;DR: You're paying $150 for the phone and 3 months of service compared to $499 for the phone by itself. This is a good deal because "free phone deals" usually end up costing more than buying the phone outright because of the service plan.
The Apple iPhone 16e is an excellent budget friendly phone
The iPhone 16e replaced the iPhone SE as Apple's latest budget phone at the time. The 16e, however, is more similar to the iPhone 16 than the SE in terms of form factor and internals. It features a 6.1" OLED display, Apple A18 chip with 4-core GPU, support for Apple Intelligence, Apple's C1 cellular modem, and up to 26 hours of video playback on the battery.
To keep costs down, Apple removed MagSafe integration and wireless charging support, the "dynamic island" screen option, and colors are limited to white and black. For the launch price of $599, these are fair compromises for what is a very capable and modernized "budget" phone.
