Developer miHoYo has made a name for itself with its various anime-inspired live-service games, but for its next project, it's taking a page out of the Elden Ring and Monster Hunter playbooks with a dark fantasy adventure called Nodusfall. There's a whole lot that we don't know about the game just yet, but following its official reveal at the 2026 edition of Gamescom Opening Night Live, a few details have trickled out regarding the multiplayer fantasy title. Ahead of its eventual release, here's everything that we know about it, so far.
Nodusfall release date
Unsurprisingly, Nodusfall doesn't have a release date penciled in yet, so this one will be out when it's out. The studio has several other projects in the works, like Petit Planet and Honkai: Nexus Anima, so don't expect Nodusfall to drop for quite some time.
Nodusfall platforms
Platforms for Nodusfall have yet to be announced, but given the platforms that miHoYo focuses on, it wouldn't be unlikely to see the game launch for PC and PS5 before rolling out to Xbox Series X|S and Switch 2.
Nodusfall gameplay
While we haven't seen much of it in action, miHoYo has described Nodusfall as a co-op action game where players pick a character, fine-tune their loadout, and work with fellow warriors to defeat tough bosses and earn sweet loot. That suggests gameplay that's a mix of Elden Ring and Monster Hunter, but Nodusfall does have a few unique ideas of its own to add to the mix. The official site for the game mentions an option to "switch roles and loadouts at will," and it sure sounds like squad variety will be the key to success when you take on MMO-inspired monsters.
Combat also has an aggressive edge, as players will need to constantly pressure enemies by exploiting their vulnerabilities and landing decisive attacks to further weaken them, setting them up for a stylish finisher. Defeated enemies will drop resources you can use to power up your weapons and abilities, letting you take on deadlier challenges.
Is Nodusfall free to play?
Like its other games, Nodusfall will indeed be a free-to-play title. But how will it be monetized? Speaking to PC Gamer, miHoYo said that it was still considering options, as the developer says that new characters in the game can be earned from play, not randomized draws. Instead, it looks like miHoYo will offer cosmetics for sale in the game, allowing you to customize your warrior for a price.

Set on a continent where magic is real and mythical beasts roam the land, Nodusfall takes place after the world has been fractured by the Dreadnodi. These mysterious beings have spread corruption across various regions, warping the beasts native to them and transforming them into dangerous threats that need to be neutralized. As a Weaver, it's up to players to hunt down the beasts, find the source of the Dreadnodi, and reclaim the remaining remnants of divinity to bring stability back to the world.
On the official Nodusfall site, you can also find the following bit of lore that sets the stage for the game:
"Once, the essence of creation swirled at the heart of the heavens. This essence shifted and wove the sun, moon, stars, laws of all realms, and even totality itself. But then an unknown calamity tainted the threads of order, and the glory of the divine gradually faded. The Divine decided to seek out the source of the calamity. Bestowing their own blessings, inscribing upon it their own hopes, tasking it to bear their power, passing upon it their will. Using this, the Divine shaped a messenger to act in their stead. Yet calamity's stride will forever outpace the speed of schemes. The messenger, yet to be enlightened, fell to the mortal realm by accident. And so began the journey of the lost ones."
