It comes as a surprise to absolutely no one that Subnautica 2 has finally surpassed 5 million copies sold. It did sell two million copies in just 12 hours after all. Then, not that long ago, it broke 4 million copies sold, which was excellent for everyone involved except for Krafton. And now its 5 million copies sold coincides with its first major update in early access, 1.1.
The biggest addition from the latest update was the introduction of just a little violence, after masses of players complained about the game's forced pacifism. You still can't kill sea creatures though, only bonk them on the head or zap them when they get uncomfortably close.

I played a great deal of the first Subnautica and Below Zero, despite my thalassophobia, and so far Subnautica 2 has lived up to any expectation I had. The only practical issues I had with the early access game so far seem to have been addressed in its 1.1 update.
After exploring all that was available to see, I took to settling in for some good old-fashioned base building, something that has always been a favourite pastime in Subnautica games. After gathering material and saving up silver I managed to make a pretty impressive build, the only thing left to do was make a moon door and a tadpole dock big enough for my two, yes two, tadpoles.
This proved to be difficult. Actually it was more than difficult, it was pretty infuriating. No matter what I did, I just couldn't seem to get the build size right, and I had a great deal of trouble fitting it into my pre-existing build layout. But hopefully this will be easier in the future as Unknown Worlds has improved the "placement for the Tadpole Dock" to make it easier to slot into small spaces.

Other base-building updates (which is all I'm really bothered about right now) include better placement for the fabricator, a new dedicated storage structure, as well as additional improvements to "rendering, creature behaviour, and the user interface." I'm here for all of that.
"With this update, we focused on refining the early-game experience and core systems," Fernando Melo, executive producer at Unknown Worlds explains in a press release. "We’ll continue shaping the world of Subnautica 2 together with our players throughout Early Access." I can't wait to see what Unknown Worlds does next.
