About two months back, during Warhammer Skulls 10th anniversary showcase, Helldivers 2 revealed that its next Warbond was going to be a crossover with Warhammer 40k.
It was exciting news, especially considering the similarity of the settings, both beset on all sides by endless tides of terrifying aliens and robot men, though at least Super Earth doesn't have to contend with Chaos… yet.
However, all we got to see of the Warbond was some clips of folks painting minis with the info that the full reveal would come later. Well, as of today, Arrowhead Studios has shown off the contents of the Warbond and given us a release date of August 12.
Though the official Sony blog post detailing everything hasn't dropped yet, we got see a trailer showing off what'd be arriving, including:
- TG-8 Sharpshooter (a hot-shot las marksman rifle)
- P/40-K Bolt Pistol (your standard bolt sidearm)
- 40-K Meltagun (a beam-firing anti-armour weapon)
And for grenades and armour:
- TG-122 Demo Trooper (Kasrkin Stormtrooper-style Astra Militarum armour)
- G/40-K Meltamine (a throwable anti-armour proximity mine)
There was also one additional unnamed armour set, which looks like Cadian Astra Militarum armour, and a load of new vehicle patterns, though these looked a little drab and lackluster to me.
As expected, though, the 40k Warbond is styled around the Imperial Guard instead of the Space Marines, which makes sense since the Astra Militarum are the closest comparable force to the Helldivers, being thrown, as they are, into impossible and frequently suicidal battles
We got a Lasgun with the TG-8 Sharpshooter and a bolt weapon with the P/40-K Bolt Pistol, but I am a little surprised we didn't get a Bolt Rifle or a Heavy bolter, but I assume one of the Warbond's Stratagems will be a Heavy Bolter, especially considering we already have the heaviest flamer we're likely to get in the game with the Cremator.
Still, the Warbond is looking good, especially the two iconic armour sets, though we'll know more when the blog post drops.
