Perusahaan Pokémon Membatalkan Pesanan Kartu Ulang Tahun ke-30 setelah 'Insiden Siber,' Memperingatkan Pelanggaran Data Pelanggan

The Pokémon Company is cancelling orders of Pokémon 30th Anniversary Cards following a "cyber incident" that potentially left customer details exposed.

That's according to emails shared online by fans impacted by the incident, who previously pre-ordered Pokémon trading cards purchased via the Pokémon Center website.

The breach appears to be isolated to European orders, which the Pokémon Company planned to fulfil using local logistics firm CEVA. If that name sounds familiar, it's because this is the same firm that Valve recently warned customers had been hit by data theft, similarly impacting those who had recently bought Steam hardware.

Exactly how many Pokémon customers have also been impacted is unclear. It has also not been explained why purchases are being fully cancelled, something that was not the case for those who bought Steam Decks and Steam Machines. IGN has contacted the Pokémon Company for comment.

"We are writing to let you know about a cyber incident affecting a Pokémon Center logistics provider that may affect some of your information," the Pokémon Company's email warns. "To fulfil your Pokémon Center orders, CEVA receives delivery-related information to ship your Pokémon Center products.

"We understand that the following information regarding your Pokémon Center purchases may have been obtained by unauthorized parties from CEVA: Your full name, your mailing address (street address, post code, city, country), your phone number, your email address, details of the contents of your PokemonCenter.com order(s)."

The news will certainly not help ongoing issues with Pokémon card scarcity, which has prompted U.S. retailer Target to begin slicing open boxes to deter scalpers. In Japan, some releases are being limited to Japanese residents only, while facial recognition for adults and children has been rolled out in some locations to limit daily card purchases.

Pokémon cards have become a prime target for scalpers and thieves over the past few years due to their soaring popularity and the perceived value of rare cards. New card releases frequently sell out completely, and The Pokémon Company has appeared unable or unwilling to fully keep up with demand — despite a staggering 10 billion cards printed last year alone.
