Iām a huge fan of samurai games. The swift action of a fast, brutal blade, combined with beautiful takes on Japan to explore, makes them some of my favorites in my collection. I even have a Ghost of Tsushima tattoo, as Jinās story left such a mark on me. With its sequel, Ghost of Yotei, seemingly skipping PC players, nowās your chance to give one of my other recommendations a try, especially with Rise of the Ronin at a massive 55% discount right now, making it cheaper than ever.
You play as the titular ronin, a custom character whoāin the opening act of the gameāloses their Blade Twin after a failed attempt to assassinate Commodore Matthew Perry. Youāre left as a masterless samurai wandering through a Japan split between pro- and anti-shogunate factions. The arrival of the āBlack Shipsā from America only complicates things further, and you, my little samurai, have been placed right in the middle of it all. No pressure.
In familiar Team Ninja fashionāthe developer behind the Nioh games as well as Wo Long: Fallen Dynastyācombat takes the spotlight, with energetic swordplay and a whole variety of weapons to master. Alongside a story that responds to your choices, itās an interesting experience that feels like a typical Team Ninja game, but in an open-world setting.
Iām doing a little bit of an injustice by comparing Sucker Punchās Ghost series with Rise of the Ronin. Thereās clearly some DNA shared between the two, but Rise of the Ronin feels grander in scaleānot necessarily better, but Team Ninja knows what its players like. While Ghost of Yoteiās combat is more cinematic, Rise of the Roninās is far more bombastic and varied, making it a great fit if youāre looking for an action RPG with plenty of depth.
If youāre looking for a new samurai-like game to play, you can grab a Rise of the Ronin Steam key for just $22.49 / Ā£17.99 at Fanatical, 55% off the listed price for the PC port of the game. Considering it has never been lower than a 50% discount on Valveās marketplace, this is an excellent deal. I paid full price for the game myself, and I think itās absolutely worth picking up at this price.
As someone who adores the Nioh games and the underappreciated Final Fantasy Origin spin-off, Rise of the Ronin is one of Team Ninjaās strongest games. Now, you can get it at a great price.
