Marvelās Wolverine developer Insomniac has said itās planning to āfurther refine the player experienceā based on feedback, while insisting itās āincredibly proudā of the game.
Wolverine is currently sitting on a 77 Metascore, with IGNās Marvelās Wolverine review returning a 6/10. We said: āMarvel's Wolverine's slick and satisfying combat wears thin well before its conclusion, so much so that even its strong character work can't quite save it from being anything more than okay.ā
In a post on social media to celebrate the launch of the game this week, Insomniac said it was āactively engagedā with players to gather feedback, and promised changes.
Hereās the statement in full:
āItās finally here ā the launch day for Marvelās Wolverine! Weāre grateful to everyone who has helped us reach this special moment. Players around the world are beginning their journey with Logan and weāre excited to learn about everyoneās experiences playing the game.
āWeāre incredibly proud of what the team has created. Weāre also actively engaged with our player community and gathering feedback to further refine the player experience.
āWe deeply appreciate our playersā passion, support, and time spent with Logan. Weāre raising our claws in tribute, and canāt wait to hear about your own adventures playing Marvelās Wolverine.ā
The question for players is, to what extent can Insomniac āfurther refineā the gameplay? Perhaps itās planning to add depth to the combat, which is at the centre of many of the review complaints. Or maybe it plans to add variety to the play spaces in some way. Given the linearity of Marvelās Wolverine's gameplay and the tight story it tells, itās hard to envisage significant changes here.
However, one aspect Insomniac may be looking at is Wolverineās infamous āfart gas,ā which has become the butt of online jokes in recent weeks. Some have called for Insomniac to add the ability to disable Loganās scent trail entirely from the game amid complaints about handholding.
The debate around this was rekindled following the publication of Marvelās Wolverine reviews online last week, with The Washington Post journalist Gene Park calling the scent trail āfart gasā because of the way it appears behind characters Logan follows.
Jean Greyās fart gas trail is NOT part of the navigation assist option. i turned it on and thereās another green line that tells you where to go. mission waypoint (yellow marker) is on as well and THAT can be turned off.

There was some confusion online about the ability to turn this feature off via accessibility options. Insomniacās official list of accessibility options for Wolverine includes a āChase Assist,ā which lets you toggle reduced movement speed for targets during chase sequences, but it does not turn off the trail. Other navigation toggles do not turn off the scent trail either.
This in turn led some to believe the scent trail is always on in-game, and so have called on Insomniac to add in the ability to turn it off. But, ahead of Wolverineās release, Insomniacās director of community and marketing, James Stevenson, took to social media to explain that Logan's scent trail is baked into the way the mutant's powers work.
āThe scent trail isnāt always on,ā he clarified. āIt represents Loganās canon mutant super senses and elite tracking ability. It only is there when heās tracking a specific scent / sound (a person, whisky, or another clue scent) - story/mission moments or when he catches whiff of a collectible.ā
Referencing previous discourse about Final Fantasyās yellow paint guides, some have said Logan's scent trails remove any potential skill required for chase sequences and any joy of discovery in exploration. Could Insomniac be prepared to make changes to the way Wolverineās scent trail works?
The only other potential changes I can think of that wouldn't require a significant and costly rework of the foundations of the game itself have to do with New Game Plus content. Wolverine has New Game Plus day one, and indeed Insomniac has insisted there's plenty for players to do once they've beaten the story. But maybe there's scope to add some more activities or challenges for players to sink their claws into.
