ConsoleWhat we've been playing - "I started with maple trees behind the bank"
Hello and welcome back to our regular feature where we write a little about the games we've been playing. This week, Connor loses his grip on reality and finds it instead on the haft of axe; Victoria feels the sting of giving an unappreciated present; Kelsey tries to stop Cooking Mama from catching a restraining order; and Bertie shows off. PCBeautiful, flawed MMO Book of Travels is now a $5 singleplayer RPG, in a break from the industry trend of killing off struggling online games
I've long been an embarrassed fan of Book of Travels, the "tiny MMO" with heady artistic influences from Swedish indies Might & Delight. It's a world of enchanted string, vast cutaway forests, tinkling tea sets, and sleepy quasi-Orientalist cities. Our former news writer Lauren Morton called it "the cure for my break-up with MMOs" back in 2021. But it's never quite accomplished its ambitions, with the developers laying off around 25 staff following a difficult early access launch, and postponing
Console"You think we're stupid?" - Players react to Pokรฉmon and Palworld lookalike Pickmon being renamed to "better align with our brand identity and lore"
The alarmingly Pokémon-like open-world creature collecting action game Pickmon has changed its name, ostensibly to "better align with our brand identity and lore", but probably also to get out of Nintendo's lawyers' way. Read more
ConsoleCrimson Desert's latest update beckons you to abandon the last of your attention span with its new 4x cutscene speed option
There are a myriad of reasons you might want to skip a cutscene in a game. It plays right before a boss you keep dying to and you just want to get back to it, you're a speedrunner, hell, you just don't care all that much about the story but like the gameplay. Different strokes! What I don't really understand is a desire to watch all the cutscenes, but sped up, an option Crimson Desert has offered right from the get go. Which, through its latest update, can go even faster. So long attention span,

ConsoleCrimson Desert's latest update makes sure you can always look at Kliff's generic mug and makes running much less annoying
Crimson Desert appears to be changing quicker than a musical theatre actor that has 90 seconds to put on a new outfit before their next number is up. A new update arrived in the action RPG earlier today, bringing with it nothing particularly revolutionary, but several tweaks that'll probably make you say something to the effect of "oh nice, that'll be handy."
